Problem Solving in Maths - Pair Share

These students are trying to solve a Maths problem by sharing their ideas with two friends. Using problem solving approach gives an opportunity for the child to talk, figure things out either by themselves or with friends. Teacher is monitoring their work, and at the same select few students to report their work back to the whole class at the end of the lesson.

Poetry Recital

We learn, create and share our learning everyday in class. But on Tuesday, we shared poems that we learned in class with the rest of our school. Everyone did well, they spoke so clearly and confidently.

Have a listen to what we have shared. Enjoy!

Clickety Clack Cicada

Learning a poem could be difficult sometimes especially with unfamiliar words. Using actions or kind of movement helps students (especially ESOL students) to make connections in some way to learn the words and the structure of the sentences.

Room 1 has difficulty in saying words in this poem, but movements / actions helps students to say the words correctly.

Enjoy!

Transition Program with GBKids

Every second Tuesday for about half an hour, GBKids with their big kids club visits Room 1. This is part of our transition program where we agreed to visit each other and talk about some of the important things that we may need to look after.
The main idea for this visit is for children to get familiar with the new environment in which that they are going to face once they start school.

This visit has been effective and watch this slide for things that we do and the reactions from the children.

Yummy Lunch

"I am enjoying my lunch," said Haloti.

"Look at my lovely healthy sandwich!" said Hohepa.

"I think I am full, Miss Ripata." said Kalo.

"What a nice day, Miss!" said Marcus.

'This is my last piece, Miss!" said Johnson.
Iverson is looking for the rest of his lunch. 'Sivi did you take my lunch?"
LOL

Our new whiteboard round table ...

We are so lucky to have this whiteboard round table in our class. We are using it in so many different ways. Children are using it to practise writing letters, sentences, words and their drawings.

Here are some photos of us working on our whiteboard table.

One way of sharing what we have learnt in class is through play. We have been learning about fairy tales, and we used the book of 'Little Red Riding Hood'. At assembly we presented our play to the whole school and here are some photos of how we did it.

Little Red Riding Hood - Diamond
Big Bad Wolf - Simione
Hunter - Sivihiva
Trees - boys
Grandma - Kira & Kalo
Sound Effects - the rest of the class
