Students are not using word endings (“s” “ing”) in their oral language - need to focus on this so they can hear and record sounds accurately in writing and recognise and use the correct structure when reading.
Using of 'Listen Up' strategy was very helpful. It helped students to attend more carefully at words given - attended to it's shape, it's letters etc.

Vanishing Dictation
- Construct a text (1-2 sentences), based on what we are currently studying, on the board. The text must be grammatically correct and use known vocabulary correctly.
- Students read the whole text aloud from the board (We use 4 3 2 strategy at this time - students read the sentences to three friends.) and then Teacher rub out a word/s.
- The students read again and say the missing words.
- Rub out some more words and have the students read and supply the missing words.
- Continue in this way until the whole text has been rubbed out and the students can recite it or until they are unable to supply any more words.

Listen Up Activity - Writing - Signt Words
Listen Up Activity - learning sight words - to identify and be able to write them down correctly in their story writing.
At first I gave my students three words for one book and then I realised that three words were too many for my students to remember. I then gave them one word and increased the words as they mastered the game.
This is how I did it in class:

This game is very helpful. My students are now able to read so many words because they can recognise them in their book and they can also use them in their story writing.
Listen Up
- helps students to remember what words look like
- helps students to write words correctly
- gives students many opportunities to see words
- students have plenty of time listening to how words are pronounced.

Glenbrae Kids visiting Room 1
As part of our Trasition program, we visit each other once a fortnight and it is to increase children's awareness and familiarity of their next learning environment. We found this program very effective because we have kids from Glenbrae kids started at our school with confident. They consider my classroom as their own because they have been there so many times.

Welcome Back - Term 2
So good to see everyone back to school after two weeks of holidays. We are going to learn about mindfulness breathing as part of our learning for this term. After breaks, we are going to calm ourselves down by using mindful breathing. This means that I will invite all students to close their eyes, sit up straight, take deep breaths and think of something that they really like.
We'll see how far we'll go with this and how effective will it has on students' learning.
